What is Vedic astrology?
Vedic astrology, also called Jyotish, is the system of astrology that developed in India. It’s sometimes translated as “the science of light”. Like Western astrology, it maps the planets at the moment you were born. It differs in how it measures the sky and in the tools it uses to read timing.

Neither system is “right” and the other wrong. They answer questions differently. Clients who like Vedic astrology usually say it’s the timing that won them over: knowing why one phase of life felt so heavy, and when it ends.

Do I need my exact birth time?
Yes, as close as you can get it. A birth certificate time is ideal. If you only know "early morning" or "around 3pm", tell Monica. She can still read a great deal from the Moon and planets, and will tell you which parts of the reading are less certain without an exact time.

Vedic Astrology Reading FAQs
Is Vedic astrology more accurate than Western astrology?
It depends on what you’re asking. Vedic astrology is especially strong on timing, through the dasha system, so many people find its predictions more specific. Western astrology is often preferred for personality and psychology. Monica works in the Vedic system.
Why is my Vedic sign different from my Western sign?
Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, which follows the actual constellations. Because of the slow wobble of the Earth’s axis, the two zodiacs are now about 24 degrees apart. That’s why most people’s Sun sign moves back one sign in their Vedic chart.
What is a nakshatra?
The sky is divided into 27 nakshatras, or lunar mansions. The one your Moon falls in adds detail to your Moon sign: your instincts, emotional needs and the planet that rules your first dasha.
What is a dasha period?
The Vimshottari dasha is a 120-year timeline in which each of the nine planets rules your life for a set number of years. Knowing your current period and sub-period explains a lot about why life feels the way it does right now.
What is Sade Sati?
It’s the roughly seven-and-a-half-year stretch when Saturn moves through the signs around your natal Moon. It has a heavy reputation, but how it plays out depends on the rest of your chart.
Can I get a Vedic reading if I'm not Indian or Hindu?
Yes. Jyotish is a system of astrology, and you don’t need any religious background. Remedies are always optional and can be kept simple.
How is this different from your kundli reading?
It’s the same astrology. The Vedic astrology reading is explained for clients new to the system, mainly in the US and UK. The kundli reading is the traditional format, often in Hindi, with doshas and marriage matching.
What if I don't know my birth time?
Share whatever you know. Monica can work with the Moon and planetary positions and will be clear about which parts are less reliable without an exact time.
